Not deterred from losing its last patents suit against Apple, Nokia is at it again with the news that it has hit Cupertino with renewed legal action for allegedly infringing upon nearly fifty of its patents.
Espoo claims that the iDevice maker has violated at 46 of its patents in the areas of “multi-tasking operating systems, data synchronization, positioning, call quality and the use of Bluetooth accessories”.
Paul Melin, Nokia's vice president of intellectual property, said in a statement: "Our latest ITC filing means we now have 46 Nokia patents in suit against Apple, many filed more than 10 years before Apple made its first iPhone.
"Nokia is a leading innovator in technologies needed to build great mobile products and Apple must stop building its products using Nokia's proprietary innovation."
Nokia has previously lodged a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) against Apple for breach five of its patents. ITC ruled in Apple’s favour saying there was no violation.
Whether or not Nokia has a genuine case against Apple or if it’s simply flexing its corporate muscles remains a mystery. But we wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the latest lawsuit has something to do with Nokia’s recent inking of a $5 billion partnership with Microsoft for Windows Phone 7, which could very well see the two giants trying to tag team Apple in the years to come.
